Hawaii has so many great attractions worth trying out. Apart from hitting the beach and the waves, it is recommended that visitors explore the various historical and cultural offerings which can only be found in this state. While each island has its own set of varied attractions, the most in-demand and most-visited ones are recommended for a worthwhile stay in this sunny state.
Island Attractions in Oahu
- Waikiki Historic Trail - embark on a walking tour of this island and revisit its colorful past. Sites that you will come across during the walking tour include the renowned surfboard markers which are six feet tall and denote the different memorable sites in the island. Your tour will begin at the Diamond Hotel found on one end of the island and the final destination is at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort.
- Pearl Harbor Tour - the historical call of the United States may very well begin with one of the most memorable ones, which is at Pearl Harbor during the forties. Visitors will have an idea of how life was back then, read about the memories and see the mementos left behind during the war era. At the end of it, you will be able to visit the on-going construction for the new Pearl Harbor Historic Trail and Visitors Center which is set to open in two years' time.
Island Attractions in the Big Island
- Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - established in the year 1916, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one of the most-visited areas in this state many thanks to the sights and sounds of the active volcanoes. Apart from witnessing the Kilauea Volcano in action, you can also go to the Kilauea Volcano Caldera, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, and the Thurston Lava Tube. - Imiloa Astronomy Center - take to the stars by visiting the Imiloa Astronomy Center. This state of the art tourist attraction can be found near the Hilo town. Sites that await you there include a planetarium, an observatory located in Mauna Kea and various exhibits depicting life which revolves around the Maunakea Volcano and its relation to astronomy.
- Panaewa Rain Forest Zoo - kids and kids at heart will have a grand time in this rain forest as it is the only one of its kind in the country. Get ready to see up close and personal rare and exotic animals which you only read about in books and prepare for surprise creatures which you never thought actually existed.
- Papaikou's Tropical Botanical Gardens - nature lovers will have their fill of the impressive 125 family-strong variants of flora and fauna in the Tropical Botanical Gardens. You might not be able to bring home and cultivate the two thousand species you will find here, but you will surely enjoy learning about them.
Hawaii's smaller islands also have their own tourist attractions, but to get the best and the most of Hawaii - in 'bulk' if you will - these recommendations should be on the top of your list.
